Limpopo Man jailed for possession of explosives

A 32-year-old Man was sentenced to 15 years direct imprisonment for illegal possession of explosives by the Thabazimbi Regional Court, Limpopo.
In December 2020, security guards searched mine workers at Amandebuilt mine gate in Northam. As they searched Sicelo Gibixhegu they found shock explosives inside his bag.

The Polokwane-based Hawks Serious Organised Crime Investigation was summoned to the scene. Hawks’ preliminary investigations led them to the house of the accused where other explosives were found and seized.
The seized explosives were 25 sock tubes and 1starter was also valued at R 10 000. Gibixhegu was put under arrest and taken to court where he was released on bail after numerous attempts at bail application.

Through the meritorious investigation of the Hawks, the accused was also convicted and sentenced to 15 years of direct imprisonment. He was also declared unfit to possess firearms.
Provincial Head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) in Limpopo Province Major General (Adv) Gopz Govender hailed the sterling work by the Hawks and the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) for securing the conviction and sentence.
