Trump emerged with a bloodied face, and said he was shot in the ear, describing a “whizzing sound” and feeling a “bullet ripping through skin,” the BBC reported.

Meanwhile, a male gunman was shot and killed by the Secret Service following the incident. The FBI says it had identified Thomas Matthew Crooks [20] as the subject involved in the attempted assassination.

One spectator was killed at the rally and two others were also critically injured. Authorities also said the victims were adult males.

Former president Barack Obama was the first high-profile person to also condemn the incident. “There is absolutely no place for political violence in our democracy,” he wrote on X.

“Although we don’t yet know exactly what happened, we should all be relieved that former President Trump wasn’t seriously hurt, and use this moment to recommit ourselves to civility and respect in our politics. Michelle and I are wishing him a quick recovery.”

The FBI has also called anyone with information on the incident to contact them.

“The FBI has assumed the role of the lead federal law enforcement agency in the investigation of the incident involving former President Donald Trump that occurred earlier today in Butler, Pennsylvania,” they said in a statement.

“Special agents of the FBI Pittsburgh Field Office responded immediately, including crisis response team members and evidence response technicians.
