The 32-year-old will be laid to rest this coming weekend at Ga-Mothapo outside Polokwane. Speaking to Capricorn FM News, the family says Lekganyane was about to leave her marriage when her husband allegedly stabbed her to death.
She died a month after she was named one of the Mail & Guardian’s 200 Young South Africans in the Climate Change and Environment category.
FAMILY STILL IJN SHOCK FOLLOWING THE MURDER OF WELL-KNOWN SCIENTIST DIDI LEKGANYANE
A family spokesperson Lethabo Lekganyane told the station that preparations are underway to lay Didi to rest this weekend. She said the family was devastated because they had not anticipated she would die so soon. Especially in the hands of someone they entrusted with her life.
The couple apparently experienced marital issues in 2022. But things had been better in the past year. Lekganyane says while the husband’s family met with her family a day after the murder, they did not appear as if they wanted to make amends but were there only to support their son.
