Police in Limpopo have issued a warning against a scam by perpetrators claiming they were paid to kill them and demanding money to save their lives. In a second incident, a person claiming to be a Hawks official has also attempted to scam innocent people.
Three public servants have reported similar incidents so far. In some cases, two businessmen also received telephone calls from a person impersonating a Hawks employee.

The person alleges that he was investigating their cases, and he demanded money from them to avoid prosecution. The police appeal to all community members to guard against these scammers.
LIMPOPO POLICE SEND STRONG WARNING AGAINST A SCAM GOING AROUND
“The police advise the community who receive such suspicious calls to rather verify caller identity by asking for their names and location of where they are based,” said SAPS in Limpopo.
“Contact the police station that the scammer claims to be stationed at to verify whether there is a legitimate warrant of arrest for you or whether the supposed official works there.
“Do not pay them anything as the legitimate police will never demand cash in exchange for their service,” they said.
“Report the scam to the nearest police station, crime stop number 08600 10111, or share information on MySAPSApp.”
