The Polokwane Municipality evicted some of the illegal residents at Garena Rental Village in Ladanna on Wednesday.
The operation also saw the municipality evicting residents at Seshego Rental Village who were failing to pay rent fees. The occupants have allegedly not been paying monthly rent at the place for a while now.

This is not the first time that the municipality has evicted residents from the place. In 2022, 117 out of 508 units were evicted after the Polokwane Housing Association obtained an official court order to do so.
AUTHORITIES EXPLAIN WHY RESIDENTS ARE BEING EVICTED FROM GARENA RENTAL VILLAGE AND IN SESHEGO
Abraham Makomoto, acting company secretary at Polokwane Housing Association has explained that they tried to reach out to the affected tenants but were unsuccessful.
“What you are seeing today is as a result of tenants defaulting on their rentals,” he told Limpopo Chronicle.
“Remember that when you come as a tenant you want a place to stay. For a place to stay, you need to qualify for it.
“What is happening here is that all through the year in 2023 and in 2022. We have been issuing notices to the tenants to say you owe us. Please pay or come and make an arrangement, for us to be able to put you in these properties. They failed to do that,” he said.
Since 2012, the Garena Rental Village has reportedly been hijacked. A group of tenants reportedly chased the security from their post and they took over the complex allocating the units to friends and families. The Rental Village is a few kilometres from the centre of the capital of Limpopo. It started operating in 2006. The housing project has 580 units consisting of one-bedroom, two-bedroom and three-bedroom units.
