A 44-year-old male tenant allegedly shot and wounded two enforcement officers during an eviction at Garena Rental Village in Ladanna, Polokwane on Wednesday.
Preliminary investigations revealed that during the enforcement of an eviction order at the suspect’s house, an altercation ensued between the occupant and the enforcement officials.

The suspect was apprehended at the scene by SAPS officers and is currently in police custody. Two firearms with ammunition, one believed to have been used in the shooting have been confiscated. The firearms will be subjected to ballistic testing.
The suspect, who reportedly owns a security company, is expected to appear before Polokwane Magistrate’s Court soon. He is facing charges of attempted murder.
Meanwhile, there were jubilation and ululations outside Garena a day after the evictions. This comes after the Limpopo High Court in Polokwane ruled in favour of over 50 occupants on Thursday.
The occupants were evicted from the Polokwane Housing Association’s [PHA] owned properties, an arm of the Polokwane Local Municipality over unpaid rentals estimated to be in millions of rands.
The court has ordered that evicted tenants be granted permission to return to their units pending the outcome of an earlier appeal lodged by tenants against a court order granted in favour of the PHA.
