Former ANC President Jacob Zuma has been expelled from the party following a disciplinary hearing. This is after Zuma publicly campaigned and voted for the MK Party in the 29 May general election.
The ANC DC found Zuma guilty of prejudicing the integrity of the party. He has been given three weeks to appeal against the ruling.

The Party’s secretary general Fikile Mbalula confirmed this to the media at the Luthuli House headquarters, Johannesburg on Monday. Mbalula says Zuma had actively impugned the integrity of the ANC and campaigned to dislodge the ANC from power.
“This conduct is irreconcilable with the spirit of organisational discipline and letter of the ANC constitution,” said Mbalula.
Zuma launched the MK party on 16 December last year. The ANC postponed the disciplinary process until after the 29 May elections.

Zuma was represented by former ANC NEC member Tony Yengeni. The DC hearing was held virtually, despite the former head of state’s insistence on an in-person process.
“His platform is dangerous, appeals to extremist instincts in our body politic and riles up a political base that may foment social unrest.
“The NEC reflected on the matter and took a decision that we must charge Jacob Zuma. That is what we have done and this is the final part of it,” he added.
