Foreign nationals arrested for attacking Police in Mankweng

Over 13 foreign nationals have been arrested for cases of attempted murder and assault GBH after they attacked Police officials who were on duty in Unit F, Mankweng, Limpopo. The incident took place on 16 July 2024.
The suspects are between 20 and 42 years old and were arrested by the members of the Provincial Organised Crime Unit and Tactical Response Team. This was during an operation conducted on Tuesday 30 July 2024.

According to the information, the officers were busy with investigations to trace suspects dealing in drugs when they got ambushed by a group of suspects. They threw stones and assaulted them.
During the incident, some officers sustained injuries. They were transported to the hospital for medical treatment. The suspects managed to evade arrest.

They all appeared before the Mankweng Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 31 July. They were facing charges of attempted murder and assault GBH.
Commissioner of Police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has strongly condemned the incident.
“We will not tolerate such brazen acts of violence against our police officers. The suspects will also face the full might of the law,” said Lieutenant General Hadebe.
