Veteran actress Connie Chiume passes away 

South African veteran actress Connie Chiume has passed away at the age of 72, her family confirmed on Tuesday. Chiume died at Garden City Hospital in Johannesburg on Tuesday. Her cause of death has not yet been disclosed. 

Her family shared the news in a short statement posted on her Instagram account.

“The Chiume family regrets to inform you of the passing of the internationally acclaimed award-winning actress Connie Chiume. The family asks for privacy during this difficult period. The family will communicate further details,” the family said in a statement.

CONDOLENCES POUR IN FOR ACTRESS CONNIE CHIUME WHO PASSED AWAY ON TUESDAY

The South African government has already sent its condolences to the Chiueme family on Tuesday.

“Our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of multi-award-winning and legendary actress Connie Chiume. Her outstanding work will always be remembered,” they wrote on X.

“Go well Mama, it hurts but you played your role. Immensely proud of your accomplishments,” wrote Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi.

“A tree has fallen. What a loss to our nation and the world. Heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, colleagues and fans of globally accomplished actress Connie Chiume,” said Advocate Thuli Madonsela.

“Gauteng mourns the passing of legendary actress Mme Connie Chiume. We are grateful for the creative gift she has shared with us and the world. May she Rest In Power,” the Gauteng government said.

“Rest Ma and thank you for everything. Sending healing energies and prayers to you Thando and the family,” wrote SABC Sports presenter Andile Ncube.  

The 72-year-old was best known for her starring role as Mamokete “Kete” Khuse, an upstanding and moral woman and maternal figure in the fictional community on e.tv soapie Rhythm City. She also played the role between 2007 and 2016. She also appeared in shows like Zone 14, Soul City, Mazinyo Dot Q and Gomora.
