Premier Ramathuba visit a small farm in Modimolle

Limpopo Premier Dr Phophi Ramathuba visited the Sampada Private Equity Farm that produces strawberries at Modimolle-Mookgopong on Monday. The visit follows her response to the Opening of Legislature debate where she pledged to give full support to the agriculture industry by investing in small-scale farms.Â

“The Provincial Government is committed to supporting all subsistence and commercial farmers in the province,” she said.
“We will create an environment that invests in small-scale farms to help them grow and reach greater heights, and further eradicate crop poverty.”
The 100% black-owned farm established by Bafedile Mofologelo in 2018 has now grown locally and internationally. It also exports its produce to a global market to countries such as the United Arab Emirates among others.
Initially, they started with only 4 hectares of land, and now have expanded to 20+ hectares with over 100 employees.Â

The first female Premier, Dr. Ramathuba also found it humbling and encouraging to be on a farm that is mostly run by women, showing her the ropes of harvesting these strawberries.Â
“To a girl child growing up in the villages, farming can be inclusive to women. Farming can be more than just harvesting produce for your livelihoods. But to promote entrepreneurship as well,” detailed the Premier proudly.”
