Fire damages educational essentials at Magale Secondary School

A huge fire that occurred on Friday last week led to the damage of an entire admin block, food storage, library and other educational essentials at Magale Secondary School in Sekhukhune.
This was revealed by Limpopo Department of Education MEC Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya who visited the school on Monday. The incident in the Sekhukhune South District occurred in the early morning of 9 August.

MEC Lerule-Ramakhanya has issued an instruction to activate a 48-hour action plan. The activation of the 48-Hour Action Plan is to ensure that learning and teaching continue. The department has also committed to delivering four mobile classrooms and school furniture.
“Procurement of Learner, Teaching, Support Materials [LTSM], food for learners and printing materials will be outsourced from neighbouring schools as grade 12 learners are busy with their trial exams,” said the department.

The MEC has vehemently condemned the unwarranted acts of degression with the contempt it deserves. She subsequently called for this matter to be treated as an emergency focus for the department.
“I call upon Team Education and all responsible stakeholders to be hard at work. In making sure that all the damaged essentials are delivered to the school within two days,” said MEC Lerule-Ramakhanya.
“I would like to send gratitude to the support and leadership of the school governing body. Sekhukhune District Municipality and Makhuduthamaga Local Municipality for declaring to support the school continuously. To SAPS, let’s bring the perpetrators to book as they ruin the future of our learners,” she said.
The MEC has also commended the community leaders and the traditional authority of Maserumule Park for their resilience and unwavering support towards working with the department to make sure that the future of our learners is secured.
“I want to take this opportune moment in this unfortunate turbulent time to convey my gratitude to all of you in the community who have shown support since the occurrence of this unfortunate event of circumstances,” she said.
