Just like her stage name ‘Motlanalo’ (meaning a bearer of hope), Modjadji Beauty Rammalo is a breath of fresh air to the Limpopo Music industry. Motlanalo means a bearer of hope.
She launched her music career in 2019 with her debut album titled ‘Mmahlabirwa’. Since then, the 27-year-old born in Sunkwane Village in Tzaneen, Limpopo has never looked back.

Amongst other accolades, she has won the Best Sepedi single at the Limpopo Music Awards (LIMA) in 2019 for the song Sewela.
A year later she released her second album titled Moshiwele featuring the song called Lerato Laka, which took the Music industry by storm. Lerato Laka has since won the best Sepedi Afro Pop/Jazz/Soul at the Sepedi Music Awards as well as the best Sepedi hit at the 2021 Limpopo Music Awards.
More recently, Motlanalo bagged two Nominations at the 16th South African Traditional Music Awards (SATMA), taking place in Mbombela on Saturday, 27 November 2021. Lerato Laka has been nominated in the Best SePedi Artist/Group and Best Afro Soul Song categories.
“It was at a very young age (when I realized that I can sing). I was in grade 2, and when we were going to a classroom after the morning assembly a teacher called me aside and asked me ‘Do you know that you have something special?’
“I knew I could sing at that time but I didn’t think it was that crazy because the way they reacted to my singing at the assembly was just out of this world,” she shares her musical journey with Limpopo Chronicle ahead of her big night.

The BA in Communications Science graduate with UNISA also worked as a Radio DJ for Ba-Phalaborwa and Energy FM Radio stations.
“There was something that needed to fulfil me and that was music. I was okay with work and had great coaches like Ashifashabba Shonisani Muleya. But I was just not okay, honestly, I just wanted to sing.”
The earmarked Queen of Sepedi Music would want to grab at least one of the awards she is nominated for at the SATMAs to her grandmother.
“I want to dedicate these awards to my grandmother; I titled the first album with her name Mmahlabirwa. I also want to dedicate these awards to my ‘Nallo nation’ . The way they went all out to show me support is amazing,” The 2021 SATMA Awards will take place at the Premier Hotel, Mbombela on Saturday at 18:00.
