Annual Makoro Village Marathon launched

The 2022 Annual Makoro Village Marathon was officially launched at Fusion Boutique Hotel in Polokwane on Monday evening. The Marathon starts from Sehlale Primary School, Ga-Mmamatsha at Ga-Molepo on Saturday, 19 March at 06:00.

It comprises the 21km, 10km, as well as the 5km fun run/walk. The Annual Makoro Village Marathon is an initiative by the Makoro John Mpe Foundation. It was also launched on Monday night.

“The reason we start with more of a Marathon is that we have observed that most of our illnesses today are lifestyle illnesses. The only way to control the disease that are killing our people is through living a healthy lifestyle, excessing, the culture of walking, running and taking part in various sporting activities,” said the founder of the John Mpe Foundation and executive mayor of the Polokwane Municipality John Mpe.

“Running is the simplest way. Running doesn’t require any expensive equipment, it’s only shoes and your legs. What do you need to run? You don’t need a skill. You go to football they say you are not skilful enough. But if you walk you don’t need any skill, you just walk or run,” he said.

EVERYBODY IS A WINNER IN RUNNING

“Running is not about winning, it’s about participating. Everybody who runs is also a winner.”

The launch was attended by amongst others Executive Mayor of Capricorn District Municipality Mamedupi Teffo, Chairperson of the Limpopo House of Traditional Leaders, Kgoshi Malesela Dikgale, well-known artists such as King Monada, Mahlatze Vokal, Janisto & CK, runners and various stakeholders.
