More than 1000 suspects arrested for various crimes

The relentless efforts by members of the South African Police Service in Limpopo continue to yield positive results after more than 1000 suspects were arrested. This was during joint operation conducted across the Province since 13 March 2022 to date.

The suspects, aged between 19 and 50, were arrested for various offences. They include murder, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. Murder, rape, illegal immigration, possession and dealing in drugs, theft of a motor vehicle including attempted murder.

Illegal firearms, drugs, illicit cigarettes, stolen and hijacked motor vehicles, liquor and livestock were recovered during these heightened operations.

In one of the successes, members of the Limpopo Highway Patrol Team (LHP) received information about two suspicious motor vehicles which were allegedly transporting illicit cigarettes in Moletjie, Chebeng village under Seshego policing area. The members spotted the two vehicles which then sped off, resulting in a car chase until at Mabokele. The suspects abandoned the vehicles and fled on foot. The Police searched the vehicles and discovered 64 boxes of Remington Gold cigarettes with an estimated value of two hundred and twenty four thousand rands (R224.000).

In another operation, the LHP Unit, members of the Capricorn Flying Squard, Masemola K9 unit and Olivier Anti Fraud and Corruption unit operationalised the information received about a business robbery which occurred at Ga-Molepo under Mankweng policing precinct. Police received a tipoff about the suspects who were reportedly driving a white Nissan NP 300 bakkie. They intercepted the vehicle at Ga-Chuene, Ditshweneng village.

Four suspects jumped out of the vehicle and ran into the bushes but a one of them aged 29. was arrested while attempting to flee the scene. The said motor vehicle was confiscated during the arrest.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo Major General Jan Scheepers has commended the members for their tireless efforts. In dealing with criminality and also thanked community members for continuously assisting the Police in the fight against crime.

The suspects have already started appearing in different Magistrate’s courts across the Province.
