NEW SPONSORS FOR CDM FOUR-IN-ONE MARATHON
Amongst those who attended the launch include representatives from MTN (main Sponsor), Polokwane Athletics Club, the Department of Health, the Department of Sports Arts and Culture, sports federations.
Speaking during the official launch on Wednesday afternoon, Capricorn District Municipality Executive Mayor, Cllr Mamedupi Teffo confirmed that she will also be running on the day.
“It’s for the first time that I will be running the CDM 4-in-1 Marathon, remember for the past two years because of covid-19 the marathon was not there. I am ready for it and I am going to do 10km,” said Teffo.
“Previously the Marathon has been a success and this year we are hoping that the Marathon will also be a success. Let me also indicate that this Marathon is able to attract even international runners who as I speak some of them have already registered.
“Most importantly this Marathon is also boosting the economy of the City of Polokwane and the District. As you know all the runners will be sleeping here and will be using the services of our SMMEs within the Capricorn District Municipality,” she added.
RUNNERS ENCOURAGED TO COME OUT IN NUMBERS
Teffo also encouraged the residents in and around the areas where the athletes will be running to feel free to come and be part of the event.
“In fact, we are calling all spectators within Polokwane. Within the Capricorn District to come and witness the runners as they run. Perhaps it can encourage them that in the next marathon they will be able to take part.”
The Executive Mayor also revealed that she has introduced a new incentive for all councillors who will be taking part in the event.
“I have also put a prize money for all councillors within the Municipality who will be taking part. The one who will finish first in the 21km will receive R 2000 and for 10km the first one will receive R 1 000. I know that I am going to finish first because I am the most energetic (laughs).”
Entries are now open and participants can get the registration forms at www.peaktiming.co.za. The online registration closes on the 31st of May 2022.
The Municipality has partnered with MTN who are the main sponsors for this year’s event.
