The Limpopo Department of Sport, Arts and Culture officially launched the Netball Fridays this past weekend.
The launch was in collaboration with Netball SA, the Limpopo Sport Confederation, the Limpopo Academy of Sport and Limpopo Netball Federation aimed at creating awareness and mobilising communities to support the forthcoming 2023 Netball World Cup.

The initiative will further contribute to raising the profile of Netball as a sporting code in the country. The proceedings started with a street parade from the Olympic Towers to the Polokwane Rugby Field.
“This is history in the making for the Province of Limpopo, in particular our athletes who are in this sporting code of Netball,” said MEC Thandi Moraka at the launch.
“We took a decision together with our Minister to say let us make it a point today that the same attention we gave to football in 2010 needs to be afforded to Netball as a sporting code.
“We need a World Cup that will leave a legacy in the minds of rural Children who are in our villages. So, what we are doing here today is building towards the Netball World Cup in 2023,” said Moraka.
FIRST EVER WORLD CUP ON AFRICAN SOIL
South Africa on behalf of the continent will host the Netball World Cup in Cape Town from July to August. This comes after Netball South Africa raised its hand to bid for hosting the prestigious World Class Event. The launch was attended by Netball SA President Cecilia Molokwane and MEC for Education in Limpopo Polly Boshielo.
