The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe warn of harsh consequences for anyone who takes the law into their own hands.
This follows an incident in which three people suspected of stealing goats were stoned and their vehicle torched on Thursday 29 September 2022 in Mafefe village.
The Police were called after some community members were seen chasing a motor vehicle all the way from Mecklenburg, Sekhukhune.
POLICE WARN VIGILANTE GROUPS
Preliminary investigations indicated that while the suspects were trying to escape, they knocked down a pedestrian. He died on the scene. The deceased was identified as Sekepe Kobeene aged 30 from Bothabothe Lesotho.

The Provincial Commissioner has called on residents to desist from this type of behaviour. But to work with the police to ensure criminals are uprooted.

Meanwhile, in an effort to rejuvenate the crime-fighting machinery at the local level, Brigadier Matome Makhura has been appointed the new Station Commander of Polokwane.
Brigadier Makhura brings with him a wealth of experience, discipline and passion to serve and protect the residents of the capital city of the province.
Joining the Police in 1990, Brigadier Makhura went through the ranks until his appointment to this demanding position. Since joining the Police, he worked in different environments. This includes the K9 unit in Polokwane, Altona Police College as a trainer,
Crime Prevention in Polokwane where his skills in identifying conflicts and applying operational solutions emerged. Thereafter led the SAPS Polokwane Taxi Violence Unit.
As a seasoned Police Officer with an impeccable record and an academic background. It includes a National Diploma and B-Tech Degree in Policing, BA Honours Degree in Community Oriented Police Management and current studies for LLB degree. Brigadier Makhura’s career in the SAPS is also exemplary and commendable
Soon after conferring the rank, the Provincial Commissioner urged the new Station Commander to use his extensive experience, knowledge and skills to clean up the streets of the Capital of Limpopo Province, Polokwane; of any form of criminality and lead by example.
