MEC monitors start of matric exams in Limpopo

Limpopo Education MEC Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya says the current cohort of matric exams candidates have the potential to change the perception of the province’s performance. The MEC was addressing over one hundred and thirty learners at Louis Trichardt High School in Vhembe before the start of the final matric examinations.

Limpopo has over 140 000 learners enrolled for the Matric examination this year. Over 1 700 examination centres administered the first paper this morning. MEC Lerule-Ramakhanya said the intervention strategies employed since early this year will go a long way in changing the narrative. The MEC says parents, guardians and all relevant stakeholders must rally behind learners from all grades.

“We have signed a pledge that says learners are going to cooperate with the invigilators. The pledge that says all our learners will be on time for exams. I want to take this time and call upon the parents. All of us as siblings and childminders to say, let’s give them support. Let’s give them time to study and also afford them time to rest. I want to say to all my learners in the province from Grade R to 12, good luck with your exams. We want the narrative of Limpopo to change through you”. MEC Lerule-Ramakhanya

The lower grades will commence with their final examinations on Friday 03 November 2022.

MINISTER CONFIDENT

Meanwhile, Basic Education Department Minister Angie Motshekga is confident this year’s matric exams will go off smoothly. This is despite school challenges after the tumultuous Covid-19 pandemic.

“For the first time since 2020, our learners went back to school without having to wear masks or observe social distancing. We [were] prepared for a return to full-time daily timetables as part of the recovery plan put in place to mitigate the impact of Covid-19 on the schooling system,” Motshekga said at a briefing on Sunday.
