A heavily pregnant woman gave birth at the Seshego Hospital gate after being dropped by an unknown vehicle last week, the Limpopo Department of health said in a statement.
HEAVILY PREGNANT WOMAN AT SESHEGO HOSPITAL GATE
The woman was left stranded to walk to the hospital gate. On hearing the grief and noise, the security officers rushed to see what was happening. They discovered that it was a heavily pregnant woman already in labour.
The security officer responded by alerting nurses in casualty who rushed to the scene and assisted the woman with final stages of delivery. The mother and the baby were admitted at the hospital for further assessment. Unfortunately, a 1.6kg baby girl was admitted to the neonatology unit since she is in critical condition while the mother is fine.
MEC RAMATHUBA’S PLEA
“The Limpopo Department of Health has learned with serious concerns the incident wherein a heavily pregnant woman was dropped off by an unknown vehicle in the early hours of the morning,” read the statement.
“We continue to make a call to all pregnant women not to wait until the contractions are stronger. Membranes have ruptured to seek help. By the time the pain is stronger women must know that the head of the baby is on the perineum. Women are advised to attend Ante natal clinics where they will be advised on the expected date of delivery, transport to the facility and the relevant facility. This is done to protect both the mother and the baby “said MEC for health Dr Phophi Ramathuba.
TIPS FOR PREGNANCY
Consume foods and beverages rich in folate, iron, calcium, and protein. Talk with your health care professional about prenatal supplements (vitamins you may take while pregnant). Eat breakfast every day. Eat foods high in fibre, and drink fluids (particularly water) to avoid constipation.
