Limpopo host successful Kuluma Vakanyi

The province of Limpopo successfully hosted the Kuluma vukanyi, at Muti Wa Vatsonga at the Ba-Phalaborwa Municipality on Saturday, 5 March. The event is a celebration marked to taste the first fruit of marula.
“Today is an important day of our calendar as we mark yet another Kuluma Vukanyi milestone,” said MEC for the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture Nakedi Kekana.

“With our traditional leaders present here, they can rest assured that events such as this look to preserve the traditional heritage practices,” she said.
LIMPOPO GOVERNMENT PARTNERSHIP WITH TRADITIONAL LEADERS BEARING FRUITS
MEC Kekana said that government partnership with the House of Traditional Leaders and Healers is key. In preserving and ensuring that the traditions of brewing and drinking marula beverage and sustain the indigenous knowledge.
She believes this tradition and heritage will attract the economy by buying and empower rural women in cooperatives who brew marula beverage.
“Kuluma vukanyi is traditional and ancestors’ clarion call to bring people together. This propitious festival is all about enjoyment, entertainment and music. Above all the preservation of our heritage and respect to one another,” MEC Kekana concluded.

Limpopo will be hosting marula festivities from 12 to 22 April 2023 at Ba-Phalaborwa. The two weeks long festivities will be filled with a hype of activities. From cultural parade, family marathon, Youth dance, comedy night, golf challenge, open air concert and a Sunday soul session.
