The ANC in Limpopo have also joined fellow Limpopo citizens in conveying condolences to the late SABC Newsreader Matome Maupi. Maupi passed away on Thursday 13 April after a long illness. He was also the presenter of the Current Affairs Show, Hlokwa la Tsela.
ANC LIMPOPO CONDOLENCES STATEMENT
“The ANC in Limpopo is saddened by the untimely passing of Matome Maupi. A seasoned Newscaster, who had spent a large part of his working life, defending the interests of the poor and the marginalised,” read the statement.
“Matome Maupi possessed an impeccable talent of breaking the news, on Thobela FM’s Hlokwa la Tsela Current Affairs Show, which earned him the name ‘Hlogo ya Ditaba’.
The rarity of his aptitude and superior lexicon, saw his name being catapulted to the same level as ‘breaking news’, at Thobela FM,” they said.
“He took over the baton from other great broadcasters like Maena Mathiba and Ike Kekana and seamlessly simmered into their roles with ease.
For more than 10 years, the people of the Limpopo Province had been accustomed to Matome Maupi’s voice. Which also became a symbol of holding authorities to power.
SABC NEWSREADER MATOME MAUPI WAS A LOVED MAN
He was also greatly loved by many. His ability and news presenting skill, saw Hlokwa la Tsela becoming one of the flagship programmes at Thobela FM.
He also knew the power of the media, as an instrument of demanding accountability.
During the period that he had been with the Public Broadcaster, Matome Maupi was not the one to be intimidated by a position or authority that the subjects of his interviews possessed.
His objective and inquisitive demeanour made him treat all politicians alike, from both the governing organisations and opposition formations. He stood for the truth and always sided with the truth.
His death has left a huge void in the broadcasting space. May his soul rest in peace.”
