The ANC Vhembe Regional Executive Committee has made changes to the three names for the mayorship of the Collins Chabane Local Municipality. The names have been submitted to the Provincial Executive Committee.

The REC had recommended Gezani Shadrack Maluleke, Tintswalo Faith Chauke and Zanele Sunduza as candidates for the mayoral candidate. But during a special meeting held on Sunday, the REC received the withdrawal from Sunduza, which was subsequently accepted.

“Cde Zanele Sunduza wrote a letter withdrawing. Indicating that she is not available to be part of the three names,” ANC regional spokesperson Gumani Mukwevho told Capricorn FM News. Sunduza has since been replaced by Simon Mavikane.

ANC VHEMBE CONFIRMS NAME CANDIDATE CHANGE IN COLLINS CHABANE MAYORSHIP LIST

“As per the guidelines we were supposed to go back to the REC meeting. To add on the third name to be sent back to the Province,” she said.

In June this year, the ANC PEC directed the Sekhukhune and Vhembe regions to submit three names for mayoral candidates. This is for the Collins Chabane and the Sekhukhune municipalities.

“The PEC further noted that the appointment of the Mayor of Sekhukhune District Municipality was not processed in accordance with the ANC procedure. Consequently, both ANC Vhembe and Sekhukhune region are directed to submit three names within two (2) weeks for Mayoral Candidate to the PEC for further processing,” said the ANC after its PEC meeting in June.

“The PEC has noted that the Collins Chabane Municipality mayoral issue has been pending for an extended period. It should be finalised as soon as possible.”

The Vhembe region had initially missed the deadline to submit three names.

NEW LEADERS FOR ANC IN VHEMBE

“One of the key mandates of the newly elected leadership is to unite comrades who were sharing contrary views coming to this conference,” said Matibe.

“We will not be tolerating wrong tendencies of undermining the elected leadership. Remedial action will be taken against those, who are seen not accepting the outcome. Comrades being given this opportunity to lead should not be used as the platform to fight positions.”

The ANC Sekhukhune region will hold its elective conference this coming weekend.

The conference was postponed two months ago with some members unsuccessfully seeking an urgent court order to interdict it.
