Godlip Reason Seoka, a Tzaneen serial rapist, received a sentence of 85 years on seven counts of rape by the Polokwane High Court.

The court noted that the accused terrorized the communities of Bolobedu and Tzaneen, Limpopo between the years 2015 and 2016 by raping and robbing women of their belongings.

He targeted unsuspecting women on their way to Tzaneen who did not know the area very well and offered assistance. In doing so, he would lure them to secluded areas.

The accused would then rape and rob the victims of their belongings. He would also target women hitchhiking on the R71 road near Tzaneen Spar on the way to Phalaborwa and Giyani. One of the victims was also hacked with a panga during the incident. 

The Police received a tip-off, and the operation was conducted. The accused was arrested on Wednesday, 28 December 2022, following a lengthy investigation and was charged with rape and robbery. 

The case was transferred to Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offenses Tzaneen for further investigation.

Sergeant Glenda Mathebula was assigned to investigate the case, and the accused was denied bail until he was found guilty by the Polokwane High Court.

Seoka was convicted and sentenced on seven counts, as follows: 

1. Count 1 Rape – sentenced to 23 years imprisonment Count 3 Rape – sentenced to 15 years imprisonment

 2. Count 5 Rape – sentenced to 8 years imprisonment

3. Count 7 Rape- sentenced to 8 years imprisonment

4. Count 9 Rape – sentenced to 8 years imprisonment

5. Count 11 Rape – sentenced to 8 years imprisonment 

6. Count 13 Rape – sentenced to 15 years imprisonment.

Count 3,5, 7, 9, and 13 to run concurrently with count 1. He was also declared unfit to possess a firearm in terms of Section 103(1)(g) of Act 60/2000.

Police in Limpopo have tracked down and arrested nine suspects at Itieleng village in Bolobedu outside Tzaneen on Tuesday.

It is reported that some members of the community of Itieleng took to the streets on Wednesday. This follows the arrest of the male suspects aged between 25 and 48. They were sought by police for a series of crimes ranging from assault, robbery to malicious damage to property committed within the villages.

The suspects were arrested through an Intelligence-driven joint operation. The preliminary report indicates that the violence was sparked by allegations that police arrested some of the community members involved in the mob justice incident while they should be tracing members of a gang called “TNS” who are allegedly terrorizing the residents.

It is reported that on Sunday 23 July 2023, the community went on a rampage and torched two family houses belonging to Lucky Mohau Mamorobela from Mamphakhathi village and Lucky Raolane from Madela Park. This is after Lucky Mamorobela was granted bail on Friday, 14 July. He is facing charges of theft of a firearm with ammunition. Burglary at business premises, pointing of a firearm, and violation of a protection order [domestic violence related.

The matter was postponed to 29 September 2023, for further police investigation.

Police are on high alert since the violence erupted and members of the Public Order Police. As well as other members of the police are monitoring the situation. Members of the community had earlier barricaded roads with burning tyres and an assortment of objects. They demanded the release of those suspects. The crowd even went as far as to chaos near the local police station. But the police swiftly reacted and the situation has since been stabilised.

The suspects are believed to be part of a gang responsible for a spate of criminal activities around this area.

Commissioner of Police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has called upon the community of Bolobedu to remain calm.

“We urge the community not to take the law into their own hands. We call for restraint and calm. Allow the Police to do their work and anyone with information on criminal activities should report to the Police for the law to take its course,” said Lieutenant General Hadebe.

More suspects are also expected to be arrested in due course.

A 96-year-old pensioner who went missing at 3am while going to the toilet in Bolobedu, Limpopo has been found alive next to a river. According to the Tzaneen Voice, Mamodjadji Rabothata went missing on Sunday, 29 July.

She is from Madiokong village in the Mopani District and went missing after indicating that she was going to the toilet.

PENSIONER FOUND AFTER GOING MISSING IN THE WEE HOURS

The local community embarked on a search operation immediately afterwards. The search reportedly led to the discovery of the victim at a river with swollen hands and feet and battling to breathe.

It is not clear how she then found herself at the local river. Police are yet to issue an update on the matter.

A woman from Moleketla village, Bolobedu under the Greater Tzaneen Municipality, Limpopo allegedly set alight her boyfriend’s house for cheating.

According to the Tzaneen Voice, the incident happened on Saturday, May 06, around 19:00. It is alleged that the couple fought over cheating rumours.

The suspect, who is reportedly on the run, is believed to have discovered that the boyfriend is still in contact with an ex. The ex is the mother of his three children and the Limpopo woman suspected his boyfriend of cheating with her.

BOYFRIEND’S HOUSE BURNT DOWN FOR CHEATING

The 32-year-old had been threatening to burn down the boyfriend’s house since she found out the partner’s intention. Subsequently, she set out her plan to burn down the house. The woman also fled the scene after the crime and is said to be on the run.

A case was opened and the police are searching for the suspect.

Limpopo and Bolobedu singer Samuel Maritus ‘Lil Meri’ Malatji has passed on following a short illness.

The 22-year-old took the music industry by storm with his hits ‘Ke ngwana wa Motho’. His manager confirmed that Lil Meri died on Saturday afternoon.

Lil Meri was born in a dusty Ga-Motupa village in early 2000.

He became famous with a hit song NGWANA MOTHO (I am also someone’s child), which caused a huge sensation in the bolobedu music industry, and has since released more hits.

SAD NEWS AS LIL MERI HAS PASSED ON 

After getting some mainstream attention, Lil Meri got into trouble when he was found wearing a South African Defence Force uniform (SANDF). 

Fortunately, he was released a few days later because this was his first offense.

After the SANDF Saga, he released a hit song BA RETSWARISA, translating (they got us arrested) a song that caused a storm in the bolobedu music world.

In 2020, Lil Meri released his other songs, such as THIPA (knife) and Melemo (mouth). These two songs are now very important and have also won him some important performances. Thipa is ranked in the top 30 of Thobela FM Ranked 5th on the list.
