Police in Tubatse have arrested a 26-year-old suspect for allegedly killing his 17-year-old girlfriend in Burgersfort. The incident took place at Bothashoek village outside Burgersfort in Sekhukhune District on Sunday, 26 November 2023.

The Police received a complaint of murder on the morning of Sunday 26 November at about 06:00 from the Grandmother of the deceased.

It is alleged that upon arrival of the Police at the scene of crime, they were approached by an elderly woman who pointed out to the Police the lifeless body of a 17-year-old female person lying on the ground in a pool of blood with a stabbed wound on the throat. The victim was certified dead at the scene by the Paramedics.

The Police received information about the possible suspect. They followed the information gathered, subsequently, the suspect was arrested at his hiding place within Sekhukhune District.

The suspect is expected to appear before Praktiseer Magistrate’s Court soon to face a charge of murder.

In one of the videos circulating on social media, Mohlala can be heard bragging about his Dolce and Gabbana jacket which cost R 677 000 and how he was wearing clothes worth R 1.5 million on that day. In 2022, Mohlala spent R 3 million for his 49th birthday. 

“I am wearing R 1.5 million,” he told a  social media user taking the video as he also showed them the clothes.

The party also attracted actors from Skeem Saam and Muvhango. There was also performances from the likes of Kharishma, King Monada, Pleasure Tša Manyalo, Big Zulu, Mafikizolo, Team Delela, Dr. Winnie Mashaba, Musa, Maredi, Vettys, Badimo ba mmino. Bafana Bafana and Leeds United legend Lucas Radebe was also one of the invited guests at the party. Musician Penny Penny sat close to Mohlala during the celebrations.

The Morgan Mohlala 50th birthday party celebration started on Saturday morning at 09:00 at the Ultimate on R37 at Ga-Phasha. SABC Limpopo’s leading Radio station Thobela FM had a live broadcast from the venue with most of their presenters in attendance.

The businessman had apparently invited anyone to the party whether you’re a long-time friend, or you’ve just met him.

BUT WHO IS THE BUSINESSMAN MORGAN MOHLALA

According to information, the 50-year-old from Ga-Phasha, Monareng o Mokgolo owns Mamatho Mining and Logistics. His trucks apparently transport Minerals from Steelpoort to Maputo in Mozambique.

Mohlala also owns BMP Group [Bo Mohlala projects] with his brothers, Joe and Doctor Mohlala.

He also apparently owns three helicopters. Interestingly, a week before his lavish birthday celebration, Mohlala was involved in a helicopter accident but survived unharmed to make it to his party which has been trending for the past few days. 

Police in Burgersfort have arrested two suspected illegal miners on Sunday, 01 October 2023 at Chrome Valley mine in Sekhukhune District

It is reported that members of the Illegal Mining Task Team in conjunction with the members of a Private Security Company have arrested two male suspects within the mining site. This is after they were caught trying to load illegally mined chrome into a Tipper truck using an Excavator.

The driver of the Excavator fled the scene on foot evading arrest. However, the truck driver and the person who allegedly organised the truck were arrested. 

The Police are hard on the heels of the other suspects who fled the scene. 

In addition, members of this team have recovered and seized abandoned mining equipment on a mining site at Mabowe Park in Muldersdrift policing precinct on Sunday 01 October 2023. 

ILLEGAL MINERS IN BURGERSFORT CAUGHT IN THE ACT 

The mining equipment includes 3x water pumps, 2x jackhammers, 3x chisels, 4x Shovels, 1x spade, and also 5x electrical cables. 

Commissioner of Police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has welcomed the arrest. She hailed the continued collaborative efforts that resulted in the confiscations as well.

The arrested suspects are expected to appear before Burgersfort Magistrate’s Court in due course.

A 33-year-old suspected Limpopo Police sergeant killer was arrested by a multidisciplinary team within eight hours after the deceased was murdered.

In the early hours of 15 July 2023, an off-duty police sergeant who was stationed at SAPS-Burgersfort was allegedly gunned down in Lebowakgomo. The assailants were driving in a Bronze Volkswagen Golf 7 GTI.

The National Head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, Lt General Godfrey Lebeya immediately activated a 72-hour plan to hunt down the suspects.

The Provincial Head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation in Limpopo Province, Major General Gopz Govender led the multidisciplinary team comprising Limpopo Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation Tracking Team. South African Police Service Crime Intelligence from the national office, SAPS- Gauteng Highway Patrol, Bravlor Risk. Tracker Connect, ICB-Insurance Crime Bureau, BadBoyz Security, GTP Sleu, Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department and Trio Tactical.

After conducting a thorough investigation, the team was led to Braamfontein in Johannesburg, Gauteng Province on the very same day. The suspected vehicle with three occupants was spotted driving in the area and it was followed and also tactically cornered.

The driver of the vehicle was suspected to be the one who killed the cop in Lebowakgomo and he was also placed under arrest. Further investigation led the team to his residential address at Rooihuiskraal in Centurion (Pretoria). Upon searching the house, the team found a firearm suspected to have been used in murdering the deceased. It was seized. The team also seized a vehicle (GTI Golf 7), a large amount of money and a cellphone.

POLICE SERGEANT KILLER ARRESTED

The investigation to establish if the suspect is not involved in other crimes is underway.

The suspect will appear in the Lebowakgomo Magistrate’s Court soon. He will also face murder, possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and other possible charges.

The National Head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, Lt General Godfrey Lebeya has appreciated the swift reaction.

“Although there was a 72-hour operational plan in place, the case was cracked within eight hours,” Lt General Lebeya said.

The police in Burgersfort have launched a search operation following for a missing 94-year-old elderly woman. Malepe Nkgikinyane resides at Ga-Radingwane Village, Sekhukhune District.

She reportedly went missing on Saturday, 24 June 2023 at about 17:20.

She was attending a church service with her granddaughter at the Mapodile location. Unfortunately, an elderly woman left the premises without informing anyone where she was going and has since disappeared.

Efforts to locate Malepe at relatives, friends and surrounding areas were not successful.

Police in Limpopo have activated the appropriate resources to trace and apprehend suspects after a Burgersfort well-known businessman was kidnapped on Friday.

The businessman was at one of his filling Stations when the incident occurred on Friday 02 June at about 19:30

WELL-KNOWN BURGERSFORT BUSINESSMAN KIDNAPPED

According to the information available at this stage the taxi driver was confronted and pointed with a firearm by an unknown male suspect. He demanded car keys while the five unknown male suspects accosted the businessman and subsequently forced him into a black VW Golf 7 GTI with unknown Registration. He then drove away with him followed by a white Mercedes Benz Registration No 786 AGM L.

In another incident, unknown male suspects who pretended to be the police in the same area went to a rental house and hijacked a black Mercedes Benz from a tenant at gunpoint.

Police were notified of these Incidents. The police reported that the earliest stage of the investigations came up with a recovery of a hijacked Silver Mercedes Benz. It was abandoned around Bothashoek village and a rifle LM 5 with twenty-five live ammunition dropped in the bushes.

A team comprising members of the Organised Crime Investigation Unit together with the Station Detectives. As well as members of the Crime Intelligence Unit are hard on the heels of the suspects. They are also investigating cases of Kidnapping, pointing of firearms, and car hijacking as well as impersonating a police officer.

Police in Burgersfort, Sekhukhune District arrested three suspects aged between 30 and 46 including a police Sergeant for alleged possession and transportation of dagga. The arrest took place on Thursday, 18 May at about 11:00.

It is reported that police were conducting a stop and search operation at a roadblock along the R37 public road next to L50 Farm. They stopped a white Volkswagen Polo motor vehicle with Mpumalanga registration numbers.

Police found three occupants and requested to search the motor vehicle after they felt an unpleasant odour inside it. Permission was granted and police found three big parcels wrapped with brown sellotape at the back seat of the motor vehicle.

One of the suspects also confirmed to the police that it was dagga that was wrapped. They were immediately placed under arrest on the spot for possession and transportation of dagga.

Preliminary investigations indicated that one of the suspects who was the driver of the motor vehicle is a 46-year-old police Sergeant. He is stationed at Barberton SAPS in Mpumalanga. His two accomplices aged 30 and 35 are foreign Nationals from Swaziland who were also in possession of valid passports. 

POLICE SERGEANT ARRESTED TRANSPORTING DAGGA 

During the arrest, police confiscated dagga with an estimated street value of R62000. 

The Provincial Commissioner of South African Police Services in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe welcomed the arrest. 

“The Police are also expected to uphold the law and if they are the ones breaking it. There must be consequences,” said General Hadebe.

The suspects are expected to appear before the Burgersfort Magistrate court. They are also charged with possession and transportation of dagga.

Members of the Limpopo Highway Patrol team have arrested a 38-year-old Illegal miner suspect and seized chrome worth an estimated street value of R500 000. The suspect was arrested on Wednesday, 11 January 2023 while travelling along the R37 road next to Atok outside Burgersfort.

The members were performing normal patrol duties when they noticed an overloaded tipper truck. It travelling in the direction of Burgersfort at about 23:00. The truck was stopped and pulled off the road.

ILLEGAL MINER CAUGHT

The illegal miner was questioned about the load. He informed the police that he was transporting chrome that was allegedly gathered by illegal miners at a mine in Atok.

The suspect was immediately arrested and the truck was also confiscated.

The suspect is expected to appear in the Sekhukhune Magistrate’s Court on Friday 13 January 2023. He is facing a charge of unlawful possession of precious metals (chrome)

Police in Driekop outside Burgersfort have opened an inquest docket after eight suspected illegal miners digging chrome at Ga-Maroga village died. 

These illegal miners were allegedly trapped underground from Friday 06 January 2023.

ILLEGAL MINERS SUFFOCATE UNDERGROUND 

One South African, three Mozambicans and four Zimbabweans were allegedly busy with illegal mining activities. When the water coming from heavy rains that fell in the area apparently pushed the soil that blocked the only point they were using for entry and exit. They then apparently suffocated.

The Police were called on Saturday night. On arrival they reportedly found that the local community members had already dug a hole.  The community members gained access to the miners and they had already started retrieving the bodies.

PROVINCIAL POLICE REACT

The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has warned community members to desist from engaging in illegal mining activities as this is unsafe and also against the law.

“As a Province, we have established a team to deal with illegal mining activities around the Province. Especially in the areas along the R37 road in Sekhukhune District. Many illegal miners have been arrested and mining equipment confiscated,” said Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe.

Charges in terms of the Immigration Act will also be preferred against the seven deceased as they were in the country illegally. A case of illegal mining will also be registered against all of them.

The post mortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death.

Limpopo police have achieved tremendous since the joint festive season operations conducted since 01 October 2022 resulting in the arrest over 20 000 suspects arrested .

The successes included a significant increase in the number of arrests for crimes such as murder, robbery, rapes, assaults, carjackings, unlawful possession of firearms. Dealing in drugs and illicit cigarettes, illegal mining, arson, malicious damage to properties. Possession of suspected stolen properties, non-compliance with liquor Act regulations including drinking in public to Contravention of illegal immigration Act.

Amongst these suspects, 202 were arrested for murder, 303 for rape and sexual assaults and 4559 for Contravention of the Immigration Act.

WHAT THE POLICE RECOVERED

During these operations, 69 firearms and 233 ammunition were recovered. Moreover, 701 knives, 568 dangerous weapons, 103 robbed/stolen motor vehicles, 5,016,628 sticks of counterfeit cigarettes and large amount of liquor were confiscated. In total, 1192 suspects were arrested for drug related crimes such as Heroin, Crystal Meth, Kat and Nyaope, totaling to a street value of R 5, 079,000.

As part of enforcement on the Liquor Act, 1989, (Act No. 27 of 1989) 5301 individuals were fined for drinking in public while

513 illegal liquor outlets were shut down.

HUGE NUMBER OF SUSPECTS ARRESTED

The successes also included an increase in the number of arrests and convictions for high profile cases that include the following:

■ A 32-year-old man was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment for rape and murder of his ex-girlfriend’s 11-year-old daughter in Burgersfort in 2021.

■Two life sentences imposed on a double murder accused, David Matjila (45) in Burgersfort. The accused stabbed and killed his girlfriend (34) and her son (02) at their home.

■The arrest of two highly wanted suspects and recovery of firearms and ammunition. The suspects were involved in spate of murders, robberies, rapes and burglaries committed in the Vhembe District.

■ The disruptive operations as Police clamped down on illegal miners in Driekop. They confiscated mining equipment worth thousands of rands. Four suspects were arrested during the multi-disciplinary operations.

SEKHUKHUNE GANGS SUSPECTS

■ The arrest of a 37-year-old suspect believed to be part of a gang of criminals sought for serious and violent crimes in the Sekhukhune District. The suspect was terrorizing communities with robberies around Dennilton, Matlerekeng including Siyabuswa in Mpumalanga. Police recovered one firearm, 64 live ammunition amongst others.

■ Six police officers attached to SAPS Vhembe District were nabbed for corruption and defeating the ends of justice. The suspects created a safe passage for illicit cigarettes smugglers to enter into the country in exchange for gratification.

■ The heroic act of an off-duty Police Sergeant led to the arrest of one suspect following an incident of house robbery at his house. Three unknown armed suspects entered his house and demanded money.  The Sergeant was shot on his shoulder. But he managed to crawl and get his Service pistol and shot one of the suspects. He was found in possession of the robbed goods from the Police Officer’s house. The suspect later succumbed to the injuries.

■ The swift arrest of a 47-year-old suspect accused of raping an 85-year-old woman at his home in Dennilton. The suspect threatened the victim with a knife, raped and robbed her of undisclosed amount of money. Police recovered the cellphone belonging to the victim during the arrest.

OFFICER AMONGST THOSE ARRESTED

■ The arrest of a 52-year-old police officer and six other suspects including a woman employed at the filling station for business robbery at the convenient store at a filling station along the N1 road next to Capricorn plaza under Bandelierkop policing area. The suspects stole a drop in safe containing undisclosed amount of money and cigarettes. The Police Warrant was also attached to Makhado Crime Intelligence Unit. Police also recovered the drop in safe and cigarettes.

■ Lastly, the recent arrest of an alleged serial rapist after he was positively linked to 7 rape cases. The 33 year old suspect was arrested at the Tzaneen CBD. In one of the incidents, the suspect hacked the victim with a panga. We are confident that the suspect we will be able to  link the suspect with more cases.
