A young Limpopo woman is still stuck in Thailand being a victim to an International job scam. DRICO Head of Diplomacy Clayson Monyela revealed this in a tweet on Tuesday morning. 

There are not so many details about the Woman but it is reported that she was offered a job as an English teacher. The latest is that the family of the unnamed woman have contacted the department and arrangements have been made for her to return to South Africa.

The lady is expected to land in South Africa on Wednesday night.

“I just got a call about a young woman from Limpopo who also fell victim to a job scam [English teacher] in Thailand. Please warn young people in your circles not to fall for these scams,” Monyela said in a tweet. 

YOUNG WOMAN HAS FALLEN VICTIM TO INTERNATIONAL JOB SCAM 

Monyela was responding to another tweet from a South African who alerted the department of a fellow South African stuck in Colombia. 

“His name is Xolani Sidwell Fongo, he is currently stuck in Cambodia. He went to Thailand in November 2022 for a data capturer job. Only to find that they were employed to scam people. He is from Theunissen, Free State and needs money to come back home. His cell number: 0768237250,” read the tweet. 

“Contact DIRCO before you accept overseas job offers. Human trafficking is real. I’ve alerted our Consular Services team to attend to the two cases. Download the DIRCO Travel Smart APP from your App Store,” he said.

Monyela says some of the signs that the job offer is a scam are a high salary. Also being asked to pay first before you travel. The department has since launched the Dirco Travel Smart App that will allow travelers to register with the department if they will be travelling abroad for work, study, leisure or any other reason.

The app allows you to share information with Dirco so that if any situation arises, consular services can locate you or your next of kin.
