Angolan boxer Cristiano Ndombassy beat local boy Nkhensahosi Makondo in the tenth round to win the World Boxing Federation (WBF) International junior-middleweight title at Meropa Casino in Polokwane on Sunday.

Makondo looked set to win on points after dominating throughout the match but the tough Angolan was too much for Makondo with a few seconds remaining in the last round.

The 26-year-old Makondo who has knocked out seven of his eight victims has now lost six times, all by knockouts. On the other hand, Ndombassy (33) has 10 knockouts in 13 wins.

Meanwhile, former world champion Lusanda Komanisi laboured to a unanimous points win over Amani Bariki from Tanzania in the main supporting bout.

This was an uninspiring performance by Komanisi despite successfully defending his World Boxing Association (WBA) Pan-African lightweight title.
