Promise Lebepe made a brief appearance at Kgapane Magistrate court in Limpopo on Monday and pleaded guilty to charges of assaulting a Nurse at Relela clinic.

The case was postponed to 2 May 2023 for the guilty plea. The 32-year-old was also denied bail and remained in custody. The assault incident took place on Wednesday, 19 April at about 11:50.

Lebepe entered the Relela clinic and also demanded medical attention from the nurse who was attending to other patients.

While waiting for the nurse, the suspect went on to physically attack the female nurse. He also fled the scene and was arrested over the weekend.

“We are happy that the court has denied the accused person bail,” said MEC for Health Dr Phophi Ramathuba.

“This is what we have been calling for, that no bail must be granted to the accused person.

“We believe that this will serve as a deterrent to those who still think of attacking our health care professionals. Our gratitude goes to the healthcare professionals who attended the court case in support of our assaulted nurse,” she said.

“We call other health care professionals to be in court on the 02 May 2023 at Kgapane Magistrate court.”
