A 20-year-old from Sandloot Village, Mahwelereng in Limpopo was arrested on Tuesday in connection with the murder of fellow Matric learner Wallen Tatesi Nthuse Ngoepe.

The arrest follows an in-depth investigation by Police in Mahwelereng into an inquest docket surrounding the untimely death of Ngoepe on Friday, 18 August. He died at home.

The tragic incident follows a chain of events that unfolded on the said date at Mpirwabirwa Secondary School. Preliminary investigations indicated that a fight broke out between two learners, resulting in one of them sustaining injuries.

Wallen Tatesi Nthuse Ngoepe was hospitalised and was released only to experience complications upon returning home. Sadly he succumbed to the injuries. Police were notified about the incident by the family after the deceased was taken to the mortuary.

At the time an inquest docket was opened. Police commenced with investigations while also awaiting the results of the postmortem. Consequently, the case was changed to murder leading to the subsequent arrest of the suspect.

The circumstances surrounding the incident are still subject to Police investigations. The suspect will appear on a charge of murder in the Mahwelereng Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.

DA IN LIMPOPO DEMANDS ANSWERS OVER DEATH OF WALLEN TATESI NTHUSE NGOPEPE

Meanwhile, the DA in Limpopo has written to the MEC for Education, Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya, to investigate the circumstances around the death of Ngoepe.

“This incident further highlights the need for the Limpopo Department of Education to ensure that there is careful monitoring of learners. Adequate security at these school camps to stop the recurrence of these tragic incidents. In November last year there were reports of another matric learner found dead with stab wounds at a school camp at Ben Hlongwane Secondary School in Tshamahansi,” said the DA.

They also demand that MEC Lerule-Ramakhanya engage with school management teams and the School Governing Bodies (SGB). To find ways to ensure that these school camps are safe for learners when they prepare for matric examinations.

A taxi driver, Ngoanametwa Gibson Thobakgale (40) was sentenced for swindling an unsuspecting tender bidder by the Polokwane Specialised Commercial Crimes Court on 14 December 2022.

Thobakgale was a local taxi driver in 2018, and he was supposed to earn his salary from transporting the commuters. But he became greedy and decided to swindle an unsuspecting victim.

The victim had applied for a tender that was advertised by the Department of Education. This was to provide security services at the schools around Limpopo Province. After he had submitted his tender documents, he received a call from someone who claimed to be an official from the Department of Education. The person was demanding R200 000 gratification in order to award him a tender.

The victim decided to contact the department in order to verify if indeed there was such person working with them.

CORRUPT TAXI DRIVER 

Unfortunately the department had confirmed that the accused’s name was not in their database. The victim immediately also notified the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation members.

On 26 November 2018, the Hawks conducted an undercover operation that resulted in the arrest of Thobakgale in Polokwane at the service station near the N1 North highway. This was after he also immediately after receiving R10 000 of the R200 000-00 he had demanded. 

Thobakgale the taxi driver was sentenced to five years imprisonment for fraud and six years imprisonment for corruption.

The sentences were also ordered to run concurrently.

The Deputy Principal of Kgagatlou Secondary School  who was caught embroiled in a sexual relationship with a matric learner has tendered a resignation letter. The resignation is with immediate effect.

The Limpopo department of Education confirmed that they received the letter from the teacher on Wednesday, 30 November 2022.

The resignation of the Deputy Principal came when the Department had just placed him in a precautionary leave. Pending investigation of his alleged relationship with a matric learner. His video clip went viral on social media on Monday. This is he was found, allegedly with a female learner at his rental place.

DEPUTY PRINCIPAL RESIGNS 

“The Department has also noted a planned protest to the school by interested parties calling for the immediate dismissal of the deputy principal. The concerned groups are urged not to disturb learners. During this crucial time of the year when they are busy with their final year exams and more so that the teacher has since resigned.”
