Limpopo-born artist Musa Keys has canceled his Detty December homecoming festival which was meant to take place at Peter Mokaba Stadium. Real name, Musa Appreciate Makamu, the musician had planned to host the event on Wednesday, 27 December.

He has anticipated over 35,000 people at the 2010 World Cup facility. “Yes, finally I have decided to go home and I have decided to host the biggest festival in Limpopo,” he announced on Instagram in early November.


The event was set to feature well-known South African artists such as Cassper Nyovest, Blxckie, Uncle Waffles, Papa Penny, Kabza de Small, DJ Maphorisa, DBN Gogo, Pleasure Tsa Manyalo, Benny Mayengani, DJ Lolo, Mlindo The Vocalist, Kelvin Momo, Young Stunna, Maglera Doe Boy, King Monada, Toby Franco, Shebeshxt, DJ Matt and Cyfred.


In a statement issued on Christmas Day, Keys explained the reasons for the cancellation.

“It is with huge regret that we have to announce the postponement of the Detty December that was scheduled to take place on Wednesday, 27th of December 2023 at Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane. Due to unforeseen technical and production challenges, we, unfortunately, will not be ready to host the event as initially planned and sincerely apologise to all ticket holders and supporters alike,” he said.

“As a team, we have looked at various options to see how best we can deliver. But all options won’t allow us to bring the world-class experience we wanted to share with you.

“We feel it is best to reevaluate the event/our plans. So that we can satisfy all concerns and ensure we come back stronger. We are currently communicating with Computicket regarding this postponement,” read the statement.

“Full refunds will be made available in due course as per the Computicket refund policy. Merry Christmas to all (not so Merry for me); however I will be delicious. I’m home with my family spending time with loved ones. It’s a homecoming.”

The artist has announced that he is expecting 35,000 people at the 2010 World Cup venue. He says it has always been his dream as a child to host an event at Peter Mokaba in Polokwane.

“You know parents are always bugging when it’s December. Come back home, come back home. Yes, finally I have decided to go home and I have decided to host the biggest festival in Limpopo,” he announced in an Instagram video.

“As a kid, I was always up in these seats looking at my favourite stars, either performing or playing some football and all of that. I was like one day I am going to be down on that field. I am going to be doing for myself and up until today, I can finally believe and I can finally achieve,” he said.

“I am here today presenting to you. Detty December, it’s happening on the 27th of December 2023 at the Peter Mokaba Stadium. 35 000 people is quite scary but I know that I will do it and I know that in God, it’s already done. I will see you on the 27th of December 2023 at Peter Mokaba Stadium, Detty December,” he concluded.

The artist has not shared the details of the line-up as yet.


Musa Appreciate Makamu, well known as Musa Keys was born in Giyani and raised in Flora Park, Polokwane. He is known for his 2021 single “Vula Mlomo” which was certified double platinum by (RiSA). The song won Record of the Year at the South African Music Awards in 2022.

Amongst others, he has won a Metro FM Music Award for Best Styled Artist. He was nominated alongside the likes of Mafikizolo, Sjava, Daliwonga and Sino Msolo. The song he did with International artist Davido has surpassed 97 Million Streams on Spotify.
