Dr. Namane Dickson Masemola, MEC for Social Development in Limpopo has reacted with shock Horror gang rapes at Ga-Mathabatha in the the Capricorn district. Five women were gang raped and seven men viciously assaulted at a well known funeral parlour.
According to police, six armed men stormed into the the funeral parlour along the R37 road early on Sunday morning.
One employee was shot and injured and the other men assaulted. Before fleeing with an undisclosed amount of money and cell phones, the assailants all raped the female employees and two female visitors.
“The amount of violence against women that accompanies alleged cases of robbery or housebreaking, is deeply disturbing to say the least,” said MEC Masemola.
“We herewith condemn this incident. Which can only also be described as nightmarish for the victims and for all peace loving citizens of the Province. We also welcome the police’s swift reaction. We also urge them to leave no stone unturned until the perpetrators are brought to book.”
Social workers are also dispatched to the area and they have started counselling immediately.”
Police investigations continue and they request the community to come forward. Should they have any information that can lead to the arrest of the perpetrators.
