Community members of Mookgophong, Limpopo have allegedly thrown stones at Police officers who had been called to solve a domestic violence matter.

Police received a complaint from a victim of a domestic violence-related incident at Extension 8 and swiftly responded. But the suspect was not found at the scene. Later on, the suspect, who had violated the protection order arrived and started attacking the Police’ in resistance to the arrest.

Consequently, the 58-year-old suspect was shot and wounded during the scuffle with the Police. The incident took place on Saturday 19 August at about 20:00

It is reported that members of the community mobilized and surrounded the Police and the Emergency Medical Services. They started to throw stones at the police vehicle.

A case of malicious damage to property has been opened but no one has been arrested in connection with the incident.

The suspect arrested for allegedly assaulting the Police Officers and for the violation of the protection order was taken to the hospital and placed under police guard. He will make his court appearance as soon as he gets discharged from the hospital.

Commissioner of Police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has strongly condemned the attack.

“This act of violence against the Police’ is unacceptable and undermines the security of our communities. Police officers when carrying out their duties are not going to watch when being subjected to attacks. The Community is expected to work with the Police and not prevent them from protecting GBV victims. Perpetrators who attacked police must be tracked down and be apprehended as soon as possible,” said General Hadebe.

An armed robbery on a farm in Marble Hall, Limpopo resulted in goats and sheep valued at R320 000 stolen on Saturday. The farm attack took place at about 03:00 on Saturday morning, 19 August 2023. Police in Sekhukhune District have since launched an intensive manhunt.

According to the information received, the owner of the farm, aged 79, was asleep when a group of men called him outside on the pretence that they were chasing a thief who had apparently entered the farm.

When the elderly man opened, one of the suspects pointed at him with a rifle and they tied wires with him. Suddenly, another group arrived driving in about four bakkies and drove to the kraals where they loaded 68 goats and 40 sheep and fled the scene.

The victim was later rescued by some employees on the farm and police were called. The vehicle recognized is a white Ford Ranger. A case of house robbery was opened and the Provincial Stock Theft Unit was also activated.

The Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has urged members to be relentless when pursuing the perpetrators.

“Community members must assist with information that can help in the apprehension of these criminals,” she said.

Police in Thohoyandou, Thulamela Municipality are investigating a case of arson after an unknown man touched a house in Muledane Block J. The incident took place next to a local clinic on Sunday 2 July 2023 at about 02:49 am. It has left extensive damage worth over R 2 million.

According to a Police report, a 47-year-old woman was sleeping at home with her children aged 19 and 24 when she heard a strange sound of a window being broken.

She then woke up to investigate and saw an unknown male holding a plastic container in one of the bedrooms.

She immediately closed the door of the bedroom where the children were asleep for their safety. The victim allegedly suddenly met the suspect at the passage who poured her with flammable all over her body.

The victim suddenly managed to take two children. She they managed to get out of the house and sought assistance from the neighbour’s house.

It appears that they shortly noticed that the house was on fire. They summoned the Police and members of the Fire Brigade for assistance who immediately rushed to the scene.

Unfortunately, the fire was too strong to be extinguished and the house was burned to ashes.

Police have confirmed that three more suspects have been arrested in the Thabo Bester prison escape case.

Two of the suspects are 47 years of age and the third is 37 years old, all three are male and are all G4S employees.

THREE MORE SUSPECTS ARRESTED CASE

The trio is expected to appear before the Bloemfontein Magistrates Court on Wednesday, 28 June 2023. They all face a charge of assisting an inmate to escape from lawful custody, violation of a corpse and corruption. Twelve suspects have been arrested in this case.

“The possibility of effecting more arrests cannot be ruled out,” said the Police.

Two Limpopo officers will appear in Mogwadi periodic court, Capricorn District on Monday, 26 June on charges of murder. A 38-year-old and 49-year-old Sergeants attached to Mogwadi Police Station were arrested on Friday morning. They face charges of Murder, Assault GBH, and Defeating the Course of Justice.

The charges against the two Police officers are related to the assault and death of Lucky Tshikhwama.

Tshikhwama died in the Mogwadi police cells on the 6th of June 2023. His family in Mohodi, Ga-Manthata, outside Polokwane are seeking answers after the incident. Tshikwama was accused of stealing a cell phone and arrested by officers on 5 June.

TWO POLICE OFFICERS ACCUSED OF MURDER

The Family says Tshikwama was allegedly brutally assaulted by police and left to die in the holding cells. His body was discovered by other detainees later on.

“When they took him, they said they were going to check with the person who was selling a cell phone. But they took him to the Dendron Station and locked him up with other criminals,” said Grace Tshikwama, Lucky’s mother.

“To my surprise, how do they lock him in the same cell with criminals before he goes to court and is found guilty?

“When I went to see him at the mortuary, I found him with a huge print of the police boot on his chest. He also had a huge scar on his chest as if he was hit with a sharp object like a panga. His jaws and neck were also broken. That’s when I realised his death was a result of being assaulted,” she told SABC News.

A well-known Motetema businessman, Aubrey Maponya was murdered and his friend suffered serious injuries after the pair were attacked by unknown suspects on Saturday, 10 June. The 43-year-old and a friend were shot by the suspects who were driving in a white Mercedes Benz sedan on Saturday, 10 June 2023 at Motetema Village, Limpopo at about 17:45.

According to the information, the businessman Aubrey Maponya and his friend were driving in a white Toyota Hilux. They were shot at and wounded by occupants of a white Mercedes Benz which appears to have been following them.

The Police and Emergency Services Personnel were called to the scene and on arrival, the victims were rushed to a local hospital. Aubrey succumbed to his injuries on arrival at the hospital., His friend was transferred to another hospital for medical attention.

The motive of the attack is not known but police investigations continue. Police have opened a case of murder and attempted murder for further investigation.

Police in Burgersfort, Sekhukhune District arrested three suspects aged between 30 and 46 including a police Sergeant for alleged possession and transportation of dagga. The arrest took place on Thursday, 18 May at about 11:00.

It is reported that police were conducting a stop and search operation at a roadblock along the R37 public road next to L50 Farm. They stopped a white Volkswagen Polo motor vehicle with Mpumalanga registration numbers.

Police found three occupants and requested to search the motor vehicle after they felt an unpleasant odour inside it. Permission was granted and police found three big parcels wrapped with brown sellotape at the back seat of the motor vehicle.

One of the suspects also confirmed to the police that it was dagga that was wrapped. They were immediately placed under arrest on the spot for possession and transportation of dagga.

Preliminary investigations indicated that one of the suspects who was the driver of the motor vehicle is a 46-year-old police Sergeant. He is stationed at Barberton SAPS in Mpumalanga. His two accomplices aged 30 and 35 are foreign Nationals from Swaziland who were also in possession of valid passports. 

POLICE SERGEANT ARRESTED TRANSPORTING DAGGA 

During the arrest, police confiscated dagga with an estimated street value of R62000. 

The Provincial Commissioner of South African Police Services in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe welcomed the arrest. 

“The Police are also expected to uphold the law and if they are the ones breaking it. There must be consequences,” said General Hadebe.

The suspects are expected to appear before the Burgersfort Magistrate court. They are also charged with possession and transportation of dagga.

Police in Bela-Bela, Limpopo arrested a couple aged 20 and 22 for Possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition, following a tip-off on 03 May 2023.

It is alleged that Police received the information about the suspects who were in possession of an unlicensed firearm. They were at a hair salon, next to the old clinic in Bela Bela.

The Police immediately followed the information and searched the said premises. They then found a 1x Glock pistol, 1x magazine and ammunition. It was hidden behind the wardrobe in the bedroom of the suspects.

The female suspect alleged that the firearm belonged to her deceased father. However, preliminary investigations by Police revealed that the firearm was reported stolen in October 2021 at Wonderboom SAPS in Gauteng Province. Both suspects were arrested.

BELA-BELA COUPLE ARRESTED FOR UNLICENSED FIREMAN

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo Major General Jan Scheepers has applauded the Police for the arrest. Suspects will appear in Bela Bela Magistrate court on Friday, May for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

A Limpopo woman has vowed to sue the Police over her wrongful arrest by the Westenburg Police Station on Saturday. Martha Wolland, who is a resident of Westenburg, outside Polokwane, says the incident has damaged her reputation.

The 43-year-old is also a Community Policing Forum member in Westenburg. She says she was dragged half-naked out of her house by the police and thrown into a police van for chargers she knows nothing of. The incident happened in full view of her children.

Wolland further told Capricorn FM News that she spent a night in the police cells after she assisted the community to look for a missing child.

She says during her arrest, the Police told her that she was being arrested for interfering with police work. She was then taken to the Polokwane Police Station where she spent the night and was released the next day.

“The way they kicked me in front of my children. I don’t want to lie, I am not fine,” she told the station.

” My kids are traumatized, I am also not fine myself. People who don’t know what happened are looking at me like I am a criminal after the way they kicked me.”

Wolland made her first court appearance on Tuesday but was told that her case has been dismissed.

A lifeless body of an African male adult was found lying on the ground next to a white X4 BMW with the driver door open in Namakgale, Phalaborwa on Monday.

Upon an inspection by Police of the body of the deceased. It was established that the victim had a stab wound on the chest and scratches on the stomach. He was identified as Kagiso Machete, 37 years old.

Namakgale SAPS are investigating a case of murder. The incident took place at Nyakelang section, Makhushane near Namakgale.
