Police in Mankweng have arrested a 23-year-old suspect in connection with the brutal murder of his grandmother in Ramogale Village, Ga-Mothapo, Limpopo. The incident took place on Tuesday, 26 September 2023.

The 97-year-old was attacked and stabbed to death with a sharp object by unknown suspects while at her home. Her lifeless body was discovered by a relative at about 07:30.

Police were notified and upon their initial investigations at the crime scene, the suspects were alleged to be unknown by family members. The dedicated team of investigators including the Crime Intelligence Unit immediately commenced investigations. In no time they cracked the case and uncovered evidence that connected the grandson who was also staying with the deceased. The suspect was arrested at the same residence in Ramogale Village.


Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect also robbed the deceased of a large amount of cash. She had been saving from her monthly social grants. Police managed to recover some of the cash hidden in the suspect’s bedroom. Other exhibits which included the knife which was found inside a pit toilet in the nearby tavern.

The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, commended the Detectives for the breakthrough made in this case within a short space of time.

The suspect is expected to appear before the Mankweng Magistrate’s Court tomorrow, Thursday 05 October 2023. He faces charges of murder and house robbery.

On the said date at approximately 07:30, the local Police responded to a complaint from a distraught relative who had discovered the lifeless body at her residence.
