Police in Tubatse have arrested a 26-year-old suspect for allegedly killing his 17-year-old girlfriend in Burgersfort. The incident took place at Bothashoek village outside Burgersfort in Sekhukhune District on Sunday, 26 November 2023.

The Police received a complaint of murder on the morning of Sunday 26 November at about 06:00 from the Grandmother of the deceased.

It is alleged that upon arrival of the Police at the scene of crime, they were approached by an elderly woman who pointed out to the Police the lifeless body of a 17-year-old female person lying on the ground in a pool of blood with a stabbed wound on the throat. The victim was certified dead at the scene by the Paramedics.

The Police received information about the possible suspect. They followed the information gathered, subsequently, the suspect was arrested at his hiding place within Sekhukhune District.

The suspect is expected to appear before Praktiseer Magistrate’s Court soon to face a charge of murder. 

A 37-year-old brutally killed his 77-year-old mother after she reprimanded him for playing loud music at Ga-Mampa Village, Limpopo.

The incident happened in the Mecklenburg Policing area outside Sekhukhune, on Sunday, 19 November 2023 at about 21:00. It is alleged that the victim was with her 17-year-old grandson when the suspect arrived and played the music loudly.

The elderly woman tried to reprimand her son but he became aggressive and started physically attacking her. The grandson tried to intervene but he was also assaulted. That’s when he ran to the neighbours for assistance.

Police were summoned to the scene and upon arrival, they found the victim lying unconscious on the floor and heavily bleeding.

The victim had also sustained injuries throughout her body. She was certified dead on the scene by the medical emergency services personnel. The suspect, known as Samo Rammalo had already fled the scene and has not been located. Police have opened a case of murder.

Commissioner of Police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has strongly condemned the continuous acts of gender-based violence perpetrated against elderly persons in the province.

She has also expressed deep concern, emphasizing the need for a thorough investigation and justice to prevail. Hadebe urged the community to refrain from violent acts when faced with domestic challenges but resolve their issues amicably.

The ANC in Limpopo have announced candidates for the positions of Mayors in Sekhukhune District Municipality, Vhembe District, Makhado and Collins Chabane Municipalities. This follows a PEC meeting held on Monday, 6 November in Polokwane.

The party has been faced with a long outstanding matter of the Mayorships of Vhembe and Makhado since the last local government elections of 2021. Shadrack Maluleke has also been interim Mayor at Collins Chabane Municipality since the passing of Moses Maluleke.

There has also been a dispute over the appointment of Sekhukhune District mayor Maleke Mokganyetji which led to the ANC Limpopo PEC instructing the region to properly elect a Mayor. The PEC has now announced candidates for the positions of Mayors in the affected municipalities.

“The PEC also expresses gratitude to all employees who accepted and acted in the various roles while awaiting the finalization of ANC processes.”

CONDOLENCES TO PARTY MEMBERS

Meanwhile, the party also announced the death of three of its members in an accident while on their way from the 2019 Manifesto Review in Malebitsa, Sekhukhune Region on Sunday. Seven passengers were injured, and three lost their lives in a head-on collision. The members were traveling in a taxi carrying ANC members returning to their respective homes.

“The African National Congress Limpopo PEC extends its wishes for a speedy recovery to all those who were injured. Offers condolences to the bereaved families of the three persons who lost their lives as a result of the accident. We implore the South African Police Services to expedite the investigation to determine the cause of the accident.”

Limpopo Premier Stanley Mathabatha on Tuesday handed over 35 brand-new ambulances to the Emergency Medical Services in the Sekhukhune District. The handover took place at the District Municipality Offices.

The handover is aligned with the set goal by the MEC for Health, Dr Phophi Ramathuba, during the 2023/2024 budget speech. Dr Ramathuba also announced that they will provide a total of 500 new ambulances in all five districts.

Over 105 new ambulances have already been commissioned and allocated to Emergency Medical Services stations across the province.

SEKHUKHUNE DISTRICT RECEIVES NEW AMBULANCES FROM PREMIER STANLEY MATHABATHA

Premier Mathabatha emphasized the crucial role of ambulance services in delivering timely medical care to patients. Ensuring immediate attention, providing vital first aid, stabilizing patients, and preventing the deterioration of their condition.

“Improving our ability to respond swiftly to emergency situations is our top priority,” said Premier Mathabatha.

“This new fleet of Emergency Medical Services vehicles represents a major step in the department’s ongoing commitment to enhancing healthcare services for all residents of the province.

“It’s important to note that additional districts and Emergency Medical Services stations are in the queue to receive new ambulances in upcoming batches.” The Premier was also joined by MEC Dr Ramathuba.

A 28-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly hacked his biological father (58) to death with a spade during a domestic dispute in Motetema, Limpopo

The incident took place on Tuesday afternoon,  17 October 2023 at their home at Leeuwfontein in Motetema, Sekhukhune District.

According to the reports, the two were doing some construction work inside the yard when they got into an argument. In reaction, the son grabbed a spade, hacking his father multiple times.

After the incident, the Police as well as the Emergency Medical Services in Motetema were summoned to the said location where upon arrival they found the victim lying in a pool of blood.

The elderly man was certified dead on the scene. Police managed to apprehend the suspect on the scene.

SON HACKED HIS BIOLOGICAL FATHER TO DEATH IN MOTETEMA 

Police have opened a case of murder. They are currently investigating the circumstances which might have led to the brutal act. Commissioner of Police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has vehemently condemned the brutal incident. 

“We urge community members to resolve matters in a civil manner rather than resorting to violence. 

“The brutal and senseless attack could have been avoided if they made a decision to seek professional help,” said Lieutenant General Hadebe.

The suspect is expected to appear before the Motetema Magistrate’s Court on Thursday 19 October 2023. He is facing a charge of murder.

Police in Burgersfort have arrested two suspected illegal miners on Sunday, 01 October 2023 at Chrome Valley mine in Sekhukhune District

It is reported that members of the Illegal Mining Task Team in conjunction with the members of a Private Security Company have arrested two male suspects within the mining site. This is after they were caught trying to load illegally mined chrome into a Tipper truck using an Excavator.

The driver of the Excavator fled the scene on foot evading arrest. However, the truck driver and the person who allegedly organised the truck were arrested. 

The Police are hard on the heels of the other suspects who fled the scene. 

In addition, members of this team have recovered and seized abandoned mining equipment on a mining site at Mabowe Park in Muldersdrift policing precinct on Sunday 01 October 2023. 

ILLEGAL MINERS IN BURGERSFORT CAUGHT IN THE ACT 

The mining equipment includes 3x water pumps, 2x jackhammers, 3x chisels, 4x Shovels, 1x spade, and also 5x electrical cables. 

Commissioner of Police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has welcomed the arrest. She hailed the continued collaborative efforts that resulted in the confiscations as well.

The arrested suspects are expected to appear before Burgersfort Magistrate’s Court in due course.

Former CFO at the Sekhukhune District Municipality who has been on the run and alleged to be involved in a security tender fraud scandal, finally handed himself. The 42-year-old is expected to make his first appearance in the Groblersdal Magistrate’s court, Limpopo on Tuesday, 3 October.

Meanwhile, the municipal Senior Administration Officer, Kedibone Magagane who also handed herself to the Hawks on Friday appeared in the Groblersdal Magistrate’s Court on Monday. She was remanded in custody until Wednesday, 4 October 2023 when she will be joining her co-accused.

It brings to five, the total number of arrests of suspects in connection with the case. The crime was allegedly committed in 2018.

The latest development follows the arrest of two service providers and a former junior employee last week.

Their charges relate to corruption and fraud amounting to approximately R5 million. The Municipal officials are accused of having conspired with the service providers to unlawfully obtain payments for security services that were not rendered.

MORE ARRESTS IN SEKHUKHUNE SECURITY TENDER FRAUD

The matter was reported to the Hawks’ Serious Corruption Investigation members for further probe. On 28 September 2023, a take-down operation was conducted in Groblersdal. It resulted in the arrest of the former municipal official, Andries Mokgotho (45). Two service providers, Bongani Masupye (34) and Shivhadana Murovhi (39).

Police in Sekhukhune, Limpopo have launched a search operation for Lebone Nkosi [28] who went missing with her 3-year-old son and an 8-month-old daughter on Sunday, 10 September.

It is alleged that Lebone Nkosi and her two children left her residence at Luckau village at around 08:00. They stayed with her grandmother and intended to visit her mother who stayed in the same Village. But they never reached their destination and have since disappeared.

The family tried to contact Lebone on her cellphone but was on voicemail. It is alleged that before her disappearance the victim met her boyfriend at Groblersdal on Saturday 9 September, 2023.

She was last seen wearing blue jeans with a white T-shirt, and her 3-year-old son was wearing blue jean trousers with a white T-shirt and blue stripes. The name of the Son is Mali Nkosi and the daughter is Keyoto Nkosi. 

LEBONE NKOSI GOES MISSING WITH HER CHILDREN

An unknown man was found hanging on a tree by an employee at a plot in Mamaneng, Matlerekeng, Sekhukhune District. The man was found by an employee on Monday, 21 August 2023 at around 17:30.

According to the information, one of the employees noticed an unknown person hanging from a tree and alerted other colleagues. Police were notified together with Emergency personnel.

On arrival, they found the body which was in an advanced state of decomposition. He was certified dead at the scene by the EMS. He is currently unknown despite several efforts made to get hold of the relatives or family.

The deceased was wearing Grey, blue and red dots, pyjama trousers and a black T-shirt with an Orange print on the front. The cause of the death will be determined by autopsy results.

MAN FOUND HANGING IN A TREE IN MATLEREKENG

Meanwhile, over 1839 suspects were arrested over criminal activities through Operation Shanela. This ranges from crimes such as murder, rapes, robberies, dealing in drugs. Also contravention of the Immigration Act, and burglaries, to unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.

The arrests were carried out from the 21 until 28 of August 2023 and members made their presence felt in all five districts.

The police restricted criminal space as they fought various criminal activities through 103 roadblocks conducted,6022 stops and searches, 6022 raiding at liquor outlets and 237 compliance inspections at second-hand goods dealers, heightened police visibility and tracing of wanted suspects. In addition, 1656 Road Traffic fines were issued.

The arrests include 23 suspects for murder, 118 for assault GBH and 116 for assault Common. 24 for rape 95, for dealing in drugs, 12 for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

Voting is underway in Zimbabwe’s general elections as current President Emmerson Mnangagwa faces competition from opposition leader Nelson Chamisa and nine other candidates. These are Zimbabwe’s General elections since a 2017 coup deposed the late President Robert Mugabe.

Mnangagwa narrowly won his re-election bid against the Movement for Democratic Change Alliance (MDC) leader Nelson Chamisa in 2018. But Mnangagwa’s victory was strongly disputed. 

Chamisa alleged that the vote was rigged in favour of Mnangagwa and launched a legal challenge to nullify it. 

That challenge was struck down by Zimbabwe’s Constitutional Court saying the opposition leader failed to prove fraud accusations.

The SADC country will elect a new president, 210 national lawmakers and 1 970 local government and municipal leaders.

There are more than 12 300 polling stations that were open as early as 7am and will close at 7pm. 

Of the eleven candidates, there is one woman and 10 men. There are approximately 6.6 million Zimbabweans registered to vote out of a population of more than 15 million.President Mnangagwa cast his vote at the Sherwood primary school in his hometown of Kwekwe.

“I think this time around there was quite a lot of publicity,” he told reporters. “I think people, even the younger generation, are also interested in casting their vote,” he said.
