The Executive Mayor of Sekhukhune District, Minah Bahula on Thursday delivered a significant boost to the communities of Moteti and Ramaphosa section handing over two completed communal water boreholes.

The areas in Moutse specifically in Wards 01 and 02 of the Elias Motsoaledi Municipality received the boreholes as part of the ongoing efforts to address water scarcity in the district. These boreholes represent vital interim measures initiated by the leadership to alleviate water shortages and ensure access to clean water for residents.

The Municipality says 300 households will benefit directly from the intervention. It also marks a crucial step towards enhancing the quality of life within the affected communities.

“Each borehole, boasting a depth of 100 meters, is equipped with a solar-powered direct current pump. It iscapable of pumping up to 5200 litres per hour at maximum capacity,” said the Municipality.

“This sustainable infrastructure will provide a reliable source of water for daily needs, empowering residents with improved access to this essential resource.

“In addition to the borehole installations, the Executive Mayor has also overseen the official commencement of a new contract in another village Phucukani. In Ward 06, to further expand water access within the municipality,” they said. 


“This commitment cements the dedication of the government to addressing long-standing challenges and ensuring the well-being of all residents.”

The Executive Mayor expresses gratitude to all stakeholders involved in making these initiatives possible. She reaffirmed the commitment to ongoing collaboration in pursuit of sustainable solutions to water scarcity.

“Together, with the support of the community, we will continue working towards a future where every individual has access to clean and reliable water. In the next few days, we will also be handing over contractors who will be drilling another badge of water boreholes to over 80 Magoši in Sekhukhune.”

Meanwhile, the Executive Mayor reportedly set to launch a program to unblock and provide technical support to revive blocked water boreholes across the district. 

Family members who died in a horror accident on Mpumalanga road last week were laid to rest at a mass funeral held in Ramogwerane Sports Ground, Limpopo on Friday.

Margaret Mokwana, Kamogelo Mokwana, Reatlegile Mokwana and Lydia Tshehla died while visiting one of their family in Mpumalanga last week Saturday. Three of the deceased are members of the same family and two of their friends.

One of the victims, Boy Johannes Motha, was laid to rest on Thursday in Tafelkop village, Sekhukhune. Meanwhile, the only survivor Buhle Mokwana [15] has been discharged from the Hospital. He was being treated for injuries after the horrific crash.

Mayor of Elias Motsoaledi Local Municipality, David Tladi, Executive Mayor of Sekhukhune District Municipality, Minah Bahula and other dignitaries attended the mass funeral. They also visited the families on Monday to pay their last respects and offer words of condolences on behalf of the government.

“This is a sad situation. We are here as a government because we know that these are difficult times for the families,” said Mayor Tladi.

“You cannot handle the situation on your own and we are here to offer our condolences. The incident has shaken the whole province and this is no longer a family tragedy.”

Meanwhile, regular psycho-social support, trauma debriefing and trauma containment sessions have also been offered to the families.

The Mayor of Elias Motsoaledi Local Municipality, David Tladi has sent condolences to the families of the six people who lost their lives following a tragic accident in Mpumalanga. The accident claimed the lives of the passengers from Tafelkop, Sekhukhune.

The deceased are Margaret Mokwana, Kamogelo Mokwana, Reatlegile Mokwana, Lydia Tshehla and Johannes Motha. Meanwhile, Buhle Mokwana sustained critical injuries.

“We hope that the affected families will find comfort, hope and courage during this difficult time. We wish the other passenger a speedy recovery,” he said.

On Monday, the Mayor and Sekhukhune District Executive Mayor Minah Bahula paid homage to the families to offer condolences on behalf of the Government, and the people of Elias Motsoaledi.

The meeting took place at Ga-Phaahla village under the leadership of Kgoši Letsiri Phaahla, Ngwato‘a Phogole. Bahula was accompanied by several members of the mayoral committee.

“The meeting is as a continuation of previous engagements, aimed to address and expedite essential service delivery projects. Notably focusing on water infrastructure projects in the area,” said the municipality. 

“During the discussions, the council of Kgoši Phaahla articulated various concerns, foremost among them being the necessity for the fencing of borehole project areas to ensure security and protection. Additionally, concerns regarding the lack of adequate sanitation infrastructure were also raised. 

“In response to these pressing issues, the Executive Mayor has committed to thoroughly investigate all raised concerns. To also expedite their resolution,” they said.

The Municipality has committed to deploy a dedicated repairs and maintenance team to the Mohlakeng water treatment plant for a week. To assess and address existing challenges, ensuring the provision of clean and potable water to the community.

Furthermore, the Executive Mayor has also pledged to expedite the borehole program. Extending construction efforts to all Magoši within the district. 

“This strategic initiative aims to facilitate easier access to water for communities across the district. A panel of contractors for this momentous program will be announced in the next few weeks.”

As a gesture of appreciation for the leadership role played by Kgoši Phaahla within the community, the Executive Mayor presented 100 chairs as a token of gratitude.

Bahula emphasized the municipality’s unwavering commitment to improving the quality of life for all residents within the Sekhukhune district. Emphasising the importance of collaborative efforts between traditional authorities and local government in achieving the developmental goal.

A 34-year-old man was arrested on Sunday, 18 February 2024, for raping his seven-year-old niece at their home in Elandskraal, Sekhukhune District in Limpopo. The incident allegedly took place in the early hours of Saturday.

According to preliminary investigations, the suspect sneaked into the victim’s room and took her to his room, where he raped her. He was then noticed by his brother coming out of his room naked and became suspicious.

The brother alerted other family members, and that’s when they found the little girl also naked inside the suspect’s bedroom. The victim then explained to her mother what had transpired. She was rushed to the local hospital for medical treatment.

Police were notified, and a case of rape was opened. The suspect was arrested at the scene.


The Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has condemned the incident and applauded the police for the swift arrest. He is expected to appear before Marble Hall Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 20 February 2024.

Stokvel members in Hlogotlou, Sekhukhune were robbed of a substantial amount of money after being ambushed by thugs during their monthly contributions.

According to the information, the stokvel members had just made their contributions at one of the member’s houses. This took place on Saturday afternoon. But they were suddenly accosted by three armed suspects who then robbed them of all the money.

The suspects also robbed another victim of cash and fled the scene. A case of house robbery has been opened and police have initiated a manhunt for the suspects involved. Hlogotlou police in Sekhukhune District, Limpopo have also launched a manhunt for the suspects.

Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has urged members of the stokvel groups to heed the call for greater vigilance and security in managing their collective funds.

“The transaction to digital payments could play a significant role in protecting the hard-earned money of stokvel members,” said Lieutenant General Hadebe.

Sergeant Juliet Motshwene, stationed at Rakgwadi police station in the Sekhukhune District, Limpopo who was reported missing, has been found dead.

Motshwene was last seen leaving her residence in Kgapamadi on Tuesday, 30 January 2024. She was wearing blue jeans, a green shirt, and pink sneakers.

In response to this concerning development, Limpopo Police authorities immediately directed the allocation of all relevant resources. To facilitate the search for the missing sergeant.

Tragically, the search efforts have come to a devastating conclusion. This comes after her lifeless body was discovered outside her home village on Sunday afternoon. The 45-year-old was found in an advanced state of decomposition.

“Police in Limpopo, along with the family, and the public are mourning the loss of our esteemed colleague. At this time, we extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Sergeant Motshwene. We offer our support during this difficult period and ask that the family be given the space and time needed to mourn their loss,” said Limpopo Police in a statement.

“[We] urge anyone with information related to this tragic incident to come forward and assist the authorities in their ongoing investigations.

“The SAPS will continue to provide updates as further information becomes available.”

A motor vehicle accident at the intersection of the N11 and D2534, at Slagboom in Sekhukhune, Limpopo claimed seven lives on Friday night.

According to reports, a Mazda 3 failed to stop at a stop sign and went under the trailer of a Hino truck. The driver of the Mazda and six other passengers perished on the scene.

Limpopo MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Florence Radzilani has sent messages of condolences to the bereaved families. Radzilani has raised a serious concern that a horrific accident like this could happen after the Provincial launch of the Festive Season Road Safety Campaign.


The MEC has appealed to all road users to drive cautiously, during this festive season and arrive alive at their respective destinations.

Police in Tubatse have arrested a 26-year-old suspect for allegedly killing his 17-year-old girlfriend in Burgersfort. The incident took place at Bothashoek village outside Burgersfort in Sekhukhune District on Sunday, 26 November 2023.

The Police received a complaint of murder on the morning of Sunday 26 November at about 06:00 from the Grandmother of the deceased.

It is alleged that upon arrival of the Police at the scene of crime, they were approached by an elderly woman who pointed out to the Police the lifeless body of a 17-year-old female person lying on the ground in a pool of blood with a stabbed wound on the throat. The victim was certified dead at the scene by the Paramedics.


The Police received information about the possible suspect. They followed the information gathered, subsequently, the suspect was arrested at his hiding place within Sekhukhune District.

The suspect is expected to appear before Praktiseer Magistrate’s Court soon to face a charge of murder. 

A 37-year-old brutally killed his 77-year-old mother after she reprimanded him for playing loud music at Ga-Mampa Village, Limpopo.

The incident happened in the Mecklenburg Policing area outside Sekhukhune, on Sunday, 19 November 2023 at about 21:00. It is alleged that the victim was with her 17-year-old grandson when the suspect arrived and played the music loudly.

The elderly woman tried to reprimand her son but he became aggressive and started physically attacking her. The grandson tried to intervene but he was also assaulted. That’s when he ran to the neighbours for assistance.

Police were summoned to the scene and upon arrival, they found the victim lying unconscious on the floor and heavily bleeding.

The victim had also sustained injuries throughout her body. She was certified dead on the scene by the medical emergency services personnel. The suspect, known as Samo Rammalo had already fled the scene and has not been located. Police have opened a case of murder.

Commissioner of Police in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has strongly condemned the continuous acts of gender-based violence perpetrated against elderly persons in the province.

She has also expressed deep concern, emphasizing the need for a thorough investigation and justice to prevail. Hadebe urged the community to refrain from violent acts when faced with domestic challenges but resolve their issues amicably.
