“I want them to know that starting a business does not need much capital but you can start small and grow. You cannot get anything if you are sitting at home doing nothing. My biggest goal for my business is to grow and supply big shops with fresh fish.

“I started Fish Farming or Aquaculture back in 2018. This is an interesting career to divert into since it is simple to work with fish. They don’t demand a lot of things. You just need to know what you are doing or what I need, then you are good to go,” said Makhado.

“Being a fish farmer helped me to stay away from substance abuse since it always needs me to be more focused. Raising fish is like raising a toddler it needs your undivided attention.

“My goal is to be able to reach out to bigger markets. To help as many youth to take part in aquaculture. For me as a fish farmer, fish farming has diversified my agricultural activities and income streams,” he said.

He said that the journey has been marvelous with the support he is getting from his family and his customers. They give him a reason to keep going.

“I have a passion for fish, I always loved consuming fish at a young age. I always went to a nearby river to catch some fish when I was young. So I developed a love for fish and I have realised that they are highly recommended by doctors because of the nutrition they carry and the fact that it’s a unique project I had to go for it,” he said.
