The Limpopo department of health have temporarily suspended services at Tshiombo Clinic in Vhembe following a fire incident on Saturday afternoon. An old building of the clinic caught fire at midday. Firefighters were called to extinguish the fire before it could spread to the other buildings.

This includes the new additions in the clinic. 

The cause of the fire is not yet known but no injuries or casualties were reported.

“Consequently, the department wishes to inform community members of Tshiombo and the surrounding communities that the clinic will be temporarily closed.”

“In the meantime, community members are advised to utilise William Eddie, Rambuda, Damani, and Makonde Clinics. 

“The department will await fire experts from the SAPS to investigate and provide the relevant report.  Once the department is given access to the site of the burnt clinic by SAPS, the cost of damage will be determined.”


MEC Dr Phophi Ramathuba has deployed the Acting Deputy Director General responsible for Healthcare Services to immediately make an assessment. This is in respect of the services that can be rendered at the facility. While the investigations and also before the building can be refurbished and recommissioned.
