The funeral of late scholar and academic luminary Professor Mulalo Doyoyo took place in Vondwe, outside Thohoyandou on Sunday. Professor Doyoyo was found dead at his place of residence in Johannesburg last week.

He was afforded an Official Provincial Funeral. This comes after Limpopo Premier Stanley Mathabatha received approval from President Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa for the Official Provincial Funeral.

Professor Doyoyo was described as a beacon of inspiration and progress in communities. He is a renowned South African inventor, engineer, and professor. His groundbreaking work at the intersection of academia and industry has also earned him global recognition.

With a diverse skill set and a passion for interdisciplinary collaboration, Professor Doyoyo has made significant contributions to the fields of climate change, eco-friendly technologies, water conservation, and clean off-grid sanitation.

In accordance with the declaration, the South African flag also flew at half-mast in Limpopo on Sunday. This was also a mark of respect for the esteemed Professor Doyoyo. No other flag was hoisted on the day, symbolising the solemnity and significance of the occasion.

The Police in Siloam outside Thohoyandou have launched a search operation of a mentally challenged missing man, Monare Matome Zeeyard.

The 17-year-old from Seshego township outside Polokwane who went missing on Wednesday 05 October 2022 at Vondwe village in Siloam Policing area.

Police and family made efforts to locate him at his relatives and surrounding areas with no success. He was allegedly last seen wearing a black trouser and jersey at the time of his disappearance.

Police in Thohoyandou have acted swiftly to arrest the suspect in the murder case of a 15-year-old girl, Tshinakaho Munyai. Munyai from Vondwe Village in the Vhembe district, Limpopo was murdered on Saturday night. 

An 18-year-old suspect was apprehended within days after he allegedly murdered Tshinakaho in Vondwe.

The suspect was reportedly walking in the company of the victim and after an argument, he allegedly stabbed her to death. He initially told the police that the victim was stabbed by an unknown suspect who confronted them whilst walking from the local Resort.

Following detailed investigations conducted by the Police, the 18-year-old teenager was arrested and charged with murder.

ARREST IN MURDER OF 15-YEAR-OLD IN THOHOYANDOU 

The suspect is a learner in one of the Secondary Schools in the area. He is expected to appear in Thohoyandou magistrate court today, Wednesday, 8 December 2021.

Limpopo Police Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has commended the Police in Thohoyandou for arresting the suspect.

Lieutenant General Hadebe also thanked community members for continuously assisting the police in the fight against crime by providing valuable information that often resulted in the arrests of the suspects.
