A Zimbabwean national, Motsi Wilfred Nhamo (44) was sentenced to 15 years of direct imprisonment for smuggling explosives into South Africa.

On 30 May 2021 members of the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation received a tip-off about a person who was smuggling explosives from Zimbabwe to Musina, Limpopo.

ZIMBABWEAN ARRESTED FOR SMUGGLING EXPLOSIVES 

The Hawks members assisted by Tactical Response Team and Musina VISPOL members conducted an undercover operation.

POLICE STOP SUSPECT IN HIS TRACKS 

The suspect matching a description was spotted walking at Beitbridge Port of Entry carrying luggage. He was stopped, searched and the team found detonators worth R110 000-00.

Nhamo was arrested and kept in police custody. Uuntil he was convicted and sentenced by the Musina Magistrate’s Court today, 17 May 2022.
